Welcome to the launch of my Low-Stakes Creating page! Here I’ll share creative projects where perfection is not the purpose and mistakes don’t matter.
I won’t be writing much about the projects because, although I’m a writer and author, getting words on a page or screen just the way I want them is hard work. Purposeful, yes. Satisfying, usually. Enjoyable, not often enough.
But give me a scrap of fabric and my mind hums with possibility. Find me a rusty metal gate and I see garden art. Show me a concrete-block wall and I’ll paint you a beautiful brick bastion.
Low-stakes creating is my happy place.
Having you here makes me even happier!
I’ve been wanting to share the photos below from a 2018 project, and now I have a place to do it. It illustrates what I mean by “seeing possibilities” and “low-stakes,” because what would I have lost if I’d screwed it up?
What do you see?
Now what do you see?
What I saw all along:
From an old garbage can lid to a whimsical piece of garden art. Nothing to lose. Only joy to be gained. My happy place.
If you like where I’m going with this low-stakes creating concept, please subscribe. This is all about fun and will always be free.
If you have a creative project you’d like to share, feel free to drop a photo and/or short description in the comments. I’d love to see what you’re up to!
And if you click on the ❤️ at the bottom of the page, I will be forever grateful.

I love this, Karen. I need more low-stakes art and playfulness in my life right now. It all feels so heavy lately.
What a fun project! Thanks for sharing with us Karen.
